When to Avoid Hiring a Tile Contractor
One of the challenges most homeowners face when hiring a tile contractor is how to make sure they hire the best one. Which is why we caution you to be on the lookout for these warning signs when hiring a tiler for your job.
Can you verify their contact information?
It is vital that you the tiler that you hire have more than just a name and contact number, find out if they have an address, and that you can verify it with a Google search. If your contact has either a website or a Facebook page, check each one out. However, if you are unable to obtain additional information, or are unable to verify their name, address, phone number, and other such credentials, proceed with caution.
Are they asking you to pay cash all the cash upfront even before your tile project starts?
Being pressured to pay all the money before the job begins should make you wary. Especially if you do not have a written contract. The beauty of a contract is it sets boundaries for both you and the installer, and, provides you with some recourse if you are not happy with their work.
Make sure the contract is signed and dated by both of you
If you can’t believe how cheap the price is for your tile installation, then be wary. A quality tile installation does take time, expertise, and the right materials, in addition to an understanding of how to do the job.
A tile installation price that seems “too good to be true” usually is, and means the tiler is not experienced or is trying to scam you. And, it is highly doubtful that they have the right training or ongoing education needed to work on your job.
