Keeping Laminate Floors From Getting Wet
Laminate flooring belongs to the latter category. Laminate flooring will be a nightmare in areas with a lot of moisture if it is done improperly. Laminate flooring at least has a good chance of withstanding water if it is laid according to manufacturer specifications. Here are some things to do if water gets on your laminate floor, according to professional laminate contractors.
What to Do About Water Under Laminate Flooring
It is necessary to remove the water right away if it gets underneath the laminate flooring. Pull up any baseboards or quarter-round (shoe molding) around the perimeter if a tiny amount of water has leaked toward the flooring’s margins.
You might be able to remove the water using a wet-dry vacuum if it is not extensive. Removing the damaged flooring is your best option. Following the removal of the baseboards and quarter-round, it should be easy to remove floorboards that run parallel to the spill since the final row of parallel laminate boards should slant forward. Then, if necessary, you can gradually begin to use boards. The first course of boards and floorboards that are parallel to the spill cannot be removed as readily. In this situation, you must take off every laminate floorboard.
What to Do If Water Is Sitting Upon Laminate Flooring
Only the top of the laminate flooring can become wet. Sides, open seams, damaged areas, and bottoms of laminate flooring cannot ever become wet. Quickly wipe off any standing water since it can seep into the seams of the laminate.
Due to the cut and exposed edges, the laminate’s edge sections are more problematic. Use a wet-dry vacuum to completely remove the water if it has reached edge areas or open seams. If you install laminate flooring in a complete bathroom, you must follow the manufacturer’s instructions in the letter. Installation in half bathrooms is permitted because there isn’t as much water in them as there is in bathrooms. The toilet and the area underneath the sink would be the main areas of concern in these bathrooms.
