Ceramic Tile Installation Tips When Working in Bathrooms

How to Install Ceramic Bathroom Tile

Bathroom ceramic tile installation can provide a durable and beautiful flooring surface. While the process of installing it is not always complicated, it will take a great deal of attention to detail and the right tools. Follow the simple steps below.

Measure

You need to measure the length and width first, then multiply these numbers to determine the overall surface area. Then add at least 10% to that figure so you have enough tile to accommodate any mistakes and repairs that need doing.

Find the Center

You need to lay the tile starting from the center of the room and then work your way towards the wall. Determine the center of each wall, and then snap a chalk line in each direction. Where the chalk line meets; this is where you will start from.

Spread The Thinset

When you are ready, use your trowel to apply the thinset. Spread some in each corner of the intersection of the 2 chalk lines. Make sure you spread evenly and smoothly.

Laying the Tile

Position a ceramic tile and then gently press it down into the thinset. Make sure you do this firmly and there are no gaps under the tile. Place take a spacer on each corner of the tile, then butt up the next one. Continue doing this until you get to the wall or any other obstacle.

Cutting

When you reach the edge of the room, you need to start cutting. Use your tape measure to measure the size of tile you need to cut. Then, using a wet saw to make the cut, once you have done this, place the tile in the space.

Drying

Once you have laid all the tiles, leave them to dry for at least 24 hours before you walk on them.
